My friend has made these for me a few times and they are yummy. I finally asked for the recipe to make them for Aaron last weekend. I anxiously awaited pulling them from the oven and taking my first bite, but the minute I saw them baked I knew something wasn’t quite right. I had forgotten the chocolate chips! Oh well, they were still awesome. (I did take a handful of chips and press them into the tops of a few of the cookies, though.)

I asked my friend where she got the recipe and she said that it is actually a jar recipe, meaning you can layer the first dry ingredients into a mason jar with a tag telling the receiver what to add to the ingredients and you have a perfect little gift. That also explains why the dough is very dry. You have to shape it into balls before baking.

1 1/3 cup oatmeal

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup chopped nuts

1 1/3 cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

(You would stop there in the jar)

1/2 cup butter

1 slightly beaten egg

1 tsp vanilla

Bakd 350 at 10-12 minutes. I used whole wheat flour and it worked great.
